Yoga studio in Greenpoint, in danger of closing, is raising money so it can relocate

A yoga studio in Greenpoint that caters to thousands of students may soon be forced to close.

Hosh Yoga, at 55 Nassau Ave., has been open since 2009 and every year more than 11,000 students attend classes at the studio.

However, its lease expires at the end of the month and the new lease offer is more than double its current rent of $2,500. The owners of the studio claim they can’t afford nor sustain a program with rent that high.

Therefore, they launched a gofundme site last week to raise money for a new location. The goal is to raise $8,500 by Aug. 18 so they can move to a new space where the rent would be $3,000 per month.

If the studio is unable to reach its funding goal, it will close for good and return all donations.

The plan is to open in a new space in mid-September at 187 Norman Ave., but the staff would need at least the first two weeks in September as a transition period. Therefore, there would be a daily morning or evening class offered at McCarren Park during September as the new space is prepared.

Rates would have to be adjusted for members starting Oct. 1, according to the owners. However, daily community classes would remain at $10.
