Woman’s Dog Stolen from Outside Williamsburg Grocery Store

NYPD

Aug. 21, 2019 By Allie Griffin

A woman’s beloved pouch was stolen Monday when she left him leashed outside a grocery store in Williamsburg, police said.

The woman left her terrier mix dog outside on a leash while she shopped for groceries around 9 p.m. inside Green Corner Fish & Farmers Market on the corner of Humboldt Street and Flushing Avenue. When she returned, only the leash was there, her pet was gone.

Surveillance video from the scene shows two men approach the dog, one appearing to keep lookout while the other snatches the dog and walks off. The NYPD has released the footage in hopes of identifying the two men.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the men is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the CrimeStoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM, or on Twitter @NYPDTips.

Heard Dog Found

Understandable to say ‘don’t leave a dog on the curb’ do know dogs have been stolen from stoops & backyards too. The bigger concern & worry should be about what is happening in society that causes a person to steal a dog, what are we to do about this. Thing is if society was operating in a healthy way dogs would not be stolen. Instead of adjusting healthy behavior by telling the dog owner what not to do, the louder societal message should be what is appropriate behavior.

Although uncommon, it’s Murphy Law. I owned a dog and never left them tied up outside while I shopped. It is amazing to see how many do it or don’t hold their dogs on a short leash when approaching other dogs or people especially seniors or block sidewalks instead of going to a niche when people are trying to get by.

I’m very upset by these pictures, it looks bad for that poo innocent dog. It looks like they took him to use as pit bull bait. I hope they catch these guys and send them to jail where they belong.

STOP LEAVING YOUR ANIMALS OUTDIDE!! Especially the small guys. I hope she gets him back. It really is when you get too comfortable and trusting these things happen.

Normally I am an optimist but they way that guy picked up that poor door send chills up my spine. I hope someone turns that guy in quick before that baby is bait. Sorry to be graphic but there is a rash of lost dogs in all boroughs. Please don’t leave your pet unattended

If this was a “beloved pouch” she would never tie him outside the store like this. This happens all the time and dogs get stolen! This is New York, people, take better care of your dogs!!! That poor puppy… what an awful owner she had.

Listen, Return the dog!

What is wrong with these people? These are heartless people, void of empathy. This is beyond theft, this is kidnapping and should be treated as severely and sternly as taking a human being and be prohibited from ever owning a pet. Often with Social Deviants their first disturbing behavior is animal abuse. Listen, Return the dog!
