Alcohol-infused ice cream “barlour” Tipsy Scoop is opening up shop in Williamsburg this weekend.

Tipsy Scoop founder Melissa Tavvs decided to expand her sales of alcoholic ice creams and sorbets across the East River after finding success with a flagship store in Manhattan. The new shop, located at 270 Metropolitan Ave., will host a grand opening this Saturday, May 11, and will be serving up Tipsy Scoop’s signature boozy ice creams.

Every ice cream on the menu has been carefully handcrafted with the hope of emulating the experience of ordering an artisanal cocktail at a mixology bar. Ice cream flavors range from vanilla bean bourbon to dark chocolate whiskey salted caramel to red velvet martini. Several non-dairy sorbet options are also on offer, including raspberry limoncello and strawberry white sangria.

Tipsy Scoop uses a custom made ice cream formula to be able to put alcohol into the dessert while still being able to get it to freeze. Two scoops of the resulting ice cream is roughly equivalent to a light beer.

For those who prefer no alcohol in their dessert, Tipsy Scoop also makes virgin options, including Shirley Temple and root beer float flavors.

The Williamsburg location, Tavvs says, is significantly bigger than their Manhattan space, which has allowed them to expand their menu even further, adding on two shareable mega-sundaes with eight scoops of ice cream each. The store has also applied for a liquor license to be able to serve up cocktail ice cream floats.

The barlour also offers tasting flights, sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, cakes, and to-go pints.

Tavvs says she has been looking into expanding into Brooklyn for quite some time, after receiving numerous requests from customers.

Williamsburg is just a great location for food in general and desserts and we thought it would be a great fit,” Tavvs said. “And now that the L train isn’t fully closing down, we thought it would be great for everyone.”

As a special for Saturday’s grand opening, the first 100 customers will get a scoop of Wild Turkey (C)old Fashioned ice cream, made with orange bitters and Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon, for just $1. The 101st patron will get a much larger scoop, along with some Wild Turkey swag.

Every person who wishes to purchase alcohol-infused ice cream from Tipsy Scoop needs to bring ID to prove they are of legal drinking age.
