Aug. 9, 2017 By Nathaly Pesantez

Police are looking to identify a group of four men in connection to four robberies that took place over a two-week period in Williamsburg.

A 53-year-old woman was the first victim in the pattern when a group of unidentified men stole her wallet while she was inside Juliette, a restaurant on 135 North 5th Street, at approximately 10:00 a.m. on June 26.

On the same day at 11:30 a.m., an unidentified person went inside IGWT NYC, a clothing store at 129 Bedford Avenue, and stole a 37-year-old female employee’s purse, which had her wallet and credit cards inside it.

Four days later at approximately 5:00 p.m. on June 30, an unidentified group went inside Maje Williamsburg, a clothing store on 65 North 6th Street, and stole a wallet with credit cards from the purse of a 20-year-old employee.

The last incident in the pattern took place on July 3 at around 5:30 p.m. at Meg, another clothing store at 54 North 6th Street, where thieves stole credit cards from a 29-year-old female employee there.

All incidents took place within a five-block area.

Police have released surveillance photos that show the group of unidentified individuals using a credit card from the first victim at a CVS in Manhattan. Purchases were made using the card at around 6:00 p.m. on June 26, the same day of the first two incidents.

Anyone with information in regards to these incidents is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

Op-ed | New York’s ground lease co-ops: Our families can’t wait any longer

Jan. 14, 2025 By Michael Tang

Last December brought a long-awaited victory for New York City. Our City Council adopted the historic City of Yes housing plan, paving the way for more than 80,000 new homes by 2040 with the promise of affordability. As a longtime resident of Flushing, Queens, I naturally welcomed the news – it’s a much-needed reprieve for New Yorkers as housing costs continue to soar in the midst of an unparalleled housing crisis. But entering 2025 on the heels of this win, we residents at  Murray Hill Cooperative remain at risk — our lives are virtually unchanged because we belong to the last class of unprotected “tenants” as ground lease co-op residents. Without legislative action, more than 25,000 New Yorkers face the threat of losing their homes — homes that we own — to landowners seeking to raise our ground rent to astronomical rates.
