The Brooklyn Star, the bar and New American eatery in Williamsburg, will be closing its doors at the end of the month after a near 10-year run.

The restaurant’s owners, Simon Gibson and Joaquin “Quino” Baca, made the announcement on the fate of their 593 Lorimer Street locale through an Instagram post on Monday.

“After much deliberation, we have decided to close The Brooklyn Star at the end of May after 9 years,” reads the post. “It was not an easy decision.”

They added: “To all our customers & patrons we have loved being a part of the community and thoroughly enjoyed hosting and meeting you.”

The Brooklyn Star serves comfort food like Mac and Cheese, poutine, spicy fried duck wings, and a brunch menu featuring chicken and waffles, baked eggs, and more.

While the restaurant boasts a nine year run, it moved to its current space in 2011 after a fire broke out at its prior 33 Havemeyer St. location, according to Eater.

The owners told the site in a statement that the reason for closing has to do with the financial burden of running the restaurant.

“We are sole owner/operators & investors at the Star so take full responsibility for our situation,” the owners told Eater. “We feel however many small restaurants & bars with a similar set up are feeling the pinch especially in Williamsburg. Increases in wages with more to come, product cost and operating costs all add up and make it difficult to break even, that and the uncertainty of the L train going down and how that will effect business were all factors.”

Basta

So some gentrifyers have gone down, and we are supposed to feel bad? That’s what happens when your customer base are a bunch of soulless, mindless sheep.
