A Thai restaurant deemed the “holy grail of Thai food” has ventured into Brooklyn, opening a Williamsburg location this past weekend.

SriPraPhai, with locations in Woodside and Long Island, opened its third location on Sunday at 176 North 9th St.

The new restaurant takes over Qi Thai Grill, which was once a joint project between Sripraphai Tipmanee, the owner of SriPraPhai, and Pichet Ong, a chef known for his dessert creations.

Larry Tipmanee, Sripraphai’s son, said Ong wanted to leave the locale, which opened an opportunity for SriPraPhai alone to operate in the neighborhood.

Larry closed the location for about a week as he worked to renovate the restaurant, adding fountains and slightly changing up the interior decor. The restaurant can seat 100 people in its tables and bar section.

Menu items, with entrees priced between $12 and $30, include noodle dishes, like pad thai and drunken noodles, fried rice, fish and chicken cooked with ginger sauces, basil duck, and a variety of curry dishes. Salads, soups, and appetizers are also served.

Zagat reviewers said the food at SriPraPhai’s first location in Woodside, which opened in the 1990s, was “out of this world”, and added them to their 2016 list of best Thai restaurants in the city.

The Williamsburg location is open Monday through Thursday from midday to 10:30 p.m., and Friday until 11 p.m. The restaurant opens at 12:30 p.m. on weekends, and closes at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. SriPraPhai closes between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Op-Ed | Strengthening local democracy through charter reform

May. 5, 2025 By Mike Racioppo

If you believe the New York City government can — and should — work better for all of us, I urge you to join us this Tuesday, May 6th, from 5-7 p.m. at Restoration Plaza in Bed-Stuy. That’s when the City Council’s Charter Revision Commission (CRC), aka The Commission To Strengthen Local Democracy, of which I’m proud to be a member, is holding a public hearing. It’s your opportunity to speak directly to those of us reviewing and recommending changes to the City Charter —t he document that functions as NYC’s constitution.
