Sex Offender Gets 50 Years to Life in Prison After Robbing, Raping Woman in Bushwick

April 13, 2018 By Nathaly Pesantez

A Brooklyn man has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting and robbing a woman in 2016 as she walked home from a Bushwick subway station.

Michael Mann, a 54-year-old registered sex offender, was convicted of two counts of predatory sexual assault and one count each of first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree robbery as a sexually motivated felony, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The Brooklyn DA says Mann grabbed the 27-year-old victim from behind on her way home after exiting the Kosciuszko Street subway station at around 2:45 a.m. in the summer of 2016. Mann then placed a knife to her back, demanding money and threatening to stab her, the Brooklyn DA said.

The 27-year-old gave Mann $5 and also offered him the rest of her belongings, but Mann began to kiss and grope her, and eventually cut her clothing with the knife and raped her, the Brooklyn DA said.

Mann also told the victim that he knew where she lived, and would kill her if she called the police, according to her testimony.

The victim went home and was later taken to Wyckoff Hospital, where a sexual assault evidence collection kit was performed.

Mann was arrested the next day after police responded to a dispute in Bushwick and recognized him from a description in the sexual assault report, according to the Brooklyn DA.
