Police Searching For Suspects Following Sexual Attacks in Greenpoint

June 25, 2018 By Nathaly Pesantez

Police are investigating two separate cases involving alleged sexual abuse and rape that have taken place in Greenpoint recently.

In one case, the suspect would ride his scooter up to his victims, dismount on the sidewalk and forcibly touch them, police said. The suspect allegedly did this on two occasions, police said.

For instance, just before 1:30 a.m. on June 21, the man grabbed a 27-year-old woman’s midsection over her clothes near McGuinness Boulevard and Meserole Avenue, according to police.

And just before 2:30 a.m. on June 10, the same man stopped near McGuinness Boulevard and Meserole Avenue and grabbed a 26-year-old female’s breast over her clothes, police say.

The suspect, as seen in an image provided by the NYPD from the June 10 incident, is described as Hispanic, short, wearing a dark colored jacket, a hat, and a bag with two stripes on it. Police say he also has a dark colored motorized scooter with a light on the front.

In a separate case, police are investigating an alleged rape that took place by the shore of Newtown Creek on Saturday.

An NYPD spokesperson said the victim, a 27-year-old woman, was walking along with a man near Apollo and Bridgewater Streets at around 6 a.m. when he forced her to engage in sex.

The man then fled the scene with his car, its make and plates unknown, according to police.

The woman then reported the incident to the 94th Precinct, and was taken to Woodhull Hospital, the spokesperson said.

The suspect, regarded by the victim as a stranger, is described as black and in his early 20s. No arrests have been made as of press time, and the incident is being investigated by the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit.

The two cases also come after a violent attempted rape in Greenpoint last Thursday, where a man forced his way into a 37-year-old woman’s apartment and tried to force her to perform a sex act on him. Police have since arrested the suspect.

Anyone with information in regards to these incidents is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

All calls are strictly confidential.

High times! Where to celebrate 4/20 in Brooklyn

Apr. 18, 2024 By Meaghan McGoldrick O'Neil & Emily Davenport

The phenomenon of 4/20 — weed-smokers’ unofficial holiday — dates back to the 1970s, when a group of California high school students would meet at 4:20 p.m. to search for a rumored, abandoned cannabis crop. While their search proved fruitless, the term “4/20” stuck, eventually becoming synonymous with cannabis culture and a rallying point for enthusiasts worldwide.
