Beginning next week, L Train riders will be left with no trains after midnight between Lorimer Street and Broadway Junction for five weeks and nine weekends, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has announced.
The overnight partial shutdowns, planned as part of the 15-month L train reconstruction project, will run from midnight to 5 a.m. on each of the scheduled days, the transit authority detailed in an L train newsletter sent out yesterday.
The MTA says it is putting the “final touches” on several aspects of the L train project, including connecting new substations in Brooklyn to power sources, and will require full access to the track and station platforms.
The suspended weeknight service is set to begin next Tuesday, July 17, and will continue on into the following two weeks, until Aug. 2. Weeknight service is then scheduled to revert back to normal for several weeks, but will be suspended again from Sept. 23 to Oct. 4. Weekend closures are sprinkled throughout the rest of the year and go into January.
Trains will continue to run between 8th Avenue in Manhattan and Lorimer Street, and a bus will run from Lorimer to Broadway Junction, making stops near each of the 10 subway stations in between. Trains will continue to run on the eastern end of the line between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway.
