Brooklyn Bridge Park will be the site of over 500 activities through the spring and summer, with a free kick-off event later this week.

The popular waterfront park will be the site of a kite festival from midday to 2:30 p.m. on May 5, the first event of the park’s programming season.

The event, called “Lift Off: A Waterfront Kite Festival” is open to all ages, and focuses on teaching the science of flight. Live DJs, stilt walkers, jugglers, and a large-scale bubble show are also part of the kick-off event. Kites will be available for purchase on site.

“Between kayaking and fitness classes, our programming regularly covers land and sea; but at this kite festival, we want visitors to look above and take to the sky,” said Nancy Webster, Executive Director for Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. “We are thrilled that this unique experience opens up our 2018 programming season in the park.”

After the kick-off, park goers can choose from a variety of activities, including arts and culture, education and environment, recreation, and more, to partake in through the coming months.

Double Dutch, a “Broadway Dance” waterfront workout, kayaking, basketball, a music festival and literary event are just some of the hundreds of events lined up at the park. Other events include volunteer clean ups, zumba, tennis, and interactive S.T.E.M. lessons geared towards children.
