Output Nightclub To Close, Owners Attribute it to Neighborhood Changes

Dec. 11, 2018 By Laura Hanrahan

Williamsburg music hotspot Output announced today that it will close its doors on Jan. 1.

Co-founders Nicolas Matar, Bo Pittman and Shawn Schwartz took to Instagram to announce the club’s closure and said it was prompted by declining revenue stemming from changing neighborhood trends.

“The sudden turn of events may seem shocking to many, but for those of us watching from the inside, we have seen the writing on the wall for some time,” the announcement read.

The owners attributed the closure to a combination of rapidly shifting social trends, unfavorable market conditions and a weakening financial outlook, as well as a few existential challenges. Rather than make significant changes that would fundamentally shift their vision for Output, the founders decided to close the nightclub.

The club, located at 74 Wythe Ave., first opened in 2013. The founders wanted to establish the club as an alternative to Manhattan’s wealth-focused nightlife scene. Bottle service and VIP sections were nowhere to be seen at Output. The multilevel space quickly became known as a haven for house and techno music, and their canopy rooftop with beautiful views of Brooklyn was renowned for its parties.

“Although endings are bittersweet, we are forever grateful for the past six years, a practical eon in the club world,” the Instagram post read.

In the announcement, the co-founders thanked their loyal patrons, performers and staff for helping Output earn its reputation as a Williamsburg staple.

Output will finish its run with a New Years Eve party hosted by DJ John Digweed before closing its doors for good on January 1.

I don’t get it, this place was always busy. It’s one of the most go-to nightclubs not only in Brooklyn, but in all of NYC! How they’re unable to keep it going is a huge shock!
