Woops! the macaron bakery shop and cafe with nationwide locations, has settled into Greenpoint and will host a grand opening event filled with free food, drinks, face-painting, and more this weekend.

The 850-square-foot bake shop, located at 120 Norman Avenue, opened its doors about three weeks ago, and will offer a variety of items and activities for its grand opening party on Sept. 16. From 3pm to 5pm, visitors can try free sandwich samples, select mini pastries, and some of the chain’s most popular macaron flavors. Face-painting and a photo booth will also be available for kids and families to enjoy.

Adults attending the grand opening can enjoy select beer and wine at happy hour prices. The Greenpoint franchise, according to owner Michelle Irizarry, is the only Woops! location that has a beer and wine license.

“It’s a fun, casual way to say we’re here,” Michelle said about the grand opening event.

Michelle co-owns the Greenpoint location with her husband, Monserrate Irizarry. Both have lived in the neighborhood for the past eight years. Michelle left a career in the corporate world to open Woops!, their first business.

“For the last 10 years we wanted to have our own business,” Michelle said. “We’ve always had a passion for food and baking.”

The site at 120 Norman Avenue used to house Lunchbox, a sandwich shop and cafe. After it closed, Michelle and Monserrate looked into the location for a potential bake shop site, a process that took a year from the time of brainstorming to the location’s opening. The shop, while known for its macarons, offers sandwiches, pastries, and makes its own coffee. Local products will also be sold at the site.

The Greenpoint Woops! location also has outdoor seating, an enclosed patio at the front with five tables and a bench, and free Wi-Fi.

The bake shop chain started in 2012 in New York City, and also has a location in the nearby Williamsburg.

Store hours are:
Mon – Thurs 7 AM – 10 PM
Friday 7 AM – 11 PM
Saturday 8 AM – 11 PM
Sunday 8 AM – 10 PM

Apr. 28, 2025 By Cate Corcoran

While rents fell during the COVID pandemic, they climbed even higher two years later.
