A developer has filed permits for a seven-story mixed use building in Greenpoint that would bring 39 new residential units to the area.
The property,owned by Salomon Cojab, is located at 171 Calyer St. and the plans call for a 75-foot-tall development that would consist of 70,171 square feet of space.
Commercial space will take up 10,400 square feet of the building, with the rest left for residential purposes and amenities.
The building will come complete with an outdoor terrace on the second floor, 17 underground parking spaces, and a bike storage room. The proposed development will be just three blocks south of the Greenpoint Avenue G train station.
No demolition permits have been filed as of yet to tear down the one-story commercial space that is currently standing on the property, which Kojab acquired back in 1977.
The construction timeline for the proposed building is not yet clear. Cojab did not respond to request for comment.

How was that approved on an historic district block?
Good question. My guess is that the building was not considered historic. There are some buildings like that in the historic district when you read the paper written on it they will say such and such address was not historic. They may have to have the front facade build with some historic markings on the new building.
The six or seven three story attached buildings on one side of the foot of greenpoint ave were not in the historic zone even though they might have been built even before the historic zone! Go figure.
There goes the neighborhood (parking).
