WILLIAMSBURG — Permits have been filed for a new five-story residential building to go up at the site where a 2015 fire killed two residents of the prior building.
The 60-foot building will come up at 30 Richardson Street, where the former three-story building was destroyed in a Dec. 28, 2015 fire. The fire, caused by the electrical wiring in the ceiling of the basement, killed two residents of the building, a man and woman.
The permits filed on Nov. 1 call for a five-unit building, with two duplex units taking up the first and second floors, and a single unit on the remaining three floors. The fifth floor will also have a terrace for tenants, bringing the total square-footage of the building to 5,000 square-feet.
The new building, to be made of concrete, will rise 25 feet higher than the former wood-frame apartment, listed in building records as a non-fireproof structure. It will also hold one less unit.
The building will be designed by JMA, the architectural design studio based in Manhattan.
Building records for the site show that an emergency demolition of the building due to the fire was ordered on Jan. 11, 2016.
The listed managing partner of the site was not immediately available for comment.
