Michelin awards Bib Gourmand to 4 Greenpoint restaurants, 7 in Williamsburg

Oct. 24, 2017 By Nathaly Pesantez

Four restaurants in Greenpoint and seven in Williamsburg were awarded Michelin’s Bib Gourmand award yesterday, which highlights restaurants that offer “a great meal for a good value.”

Paulie Gee’s, the wood-fire pizza restaurant on Greenpoint Avenue, was awarded once again, along with the Middle Eastern Glasserie on Commercial Street. Achilles Heel, the gastropub on West Street, also made the list once more.

21 Greenpoint, the New American restaurant on Greenpoint Avenue run by Homer Murray, son of actor Bill Murray, was a newcomer to the 2018 list. Social media accounts for 21 Greenpoint and Paulie Gee’s exchanged pleasantries on Instagram at the news.

All seven Williamsburg restaurants are returning to the list of 127 establishments chosen by Michelin inspectors: Egg, Kings County Imperial, Llama Inn, Rider, Rye, Shalom Japan, and Xixa.

The Bib Gourmand awards are given out each year, and are handed to restaurants where diners can enjoy two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less.

“Michelin inspectors have been eating their way around New York’s five boroughs for more than 13 years and every year they are inspired by the inventiveness and imagination of the city’s chefs,” said Michael Ellis, international director of the Michelin Guide, in a statement. “From Flushing to the Bronx, the Bib Gourmand restaurants represent 127 establishments where diners can enjoy quality ingredients, quality cooking and fair prices.”

The 2018 list of Michelin-starred restaurants for New York City will be released on Oct. 30.
