The track and field at McCarren Park will be closing for a revamp next month that will take approximately one year to complete.
The multi-use synthetic turf field and rubber track will close on March 19 for a $3.2 million overhaul that includes tearing out the old, heavily worn materials and laying out fresh turf and rubber, according to the Department of Parks and Recreation.

The park surrounding the field will also see new outdoor fitness equipment, a misting station and drinking fountain, revamped bleachers for spectators, and shade trees right behind them.
The Parks department says the track and field received funding in fiscal year 2016 for upgrades, and came up with a new design with community feedback during an input meeting two years ago. The project’s webpage says the design process took seven months.
“McCarren Park’s track and synthetic turf field are beloved in the North Brooklyn community, and we are looking forward to giving them a well-deserved upgrade,” said NYC Parks.
The last time the track and field were upgraded was over a decade ago in 2005, the spokesperson said.
McCarren Park’s track and field area are bordered by Bayard Street, Union Avenue, Lorimer Street, and Driggs Avenue.

I need to know if they are at all messing with the lighting towers. A family of Red Tail Hawks have made their nests there, and I want to make sure they won’t be messed with. Thank you.

Who tf plays handball
Honestly I’d like to see the handball courts gone as well as that huge concrete area behind the tennis courts. Both areas have always attracted troublemakers and otherwise uncivilized behaviors for whatever reason!
