Police are searching for a man who attempted to rape a woman after forcing his way inside her apartment yesterday.

Police say a 37-year-old woman living in an apartment by Meeker Avenue and Kingsland Avenue heard a knock on her door by an unknown man asking for “Jeffrey” at around 4:30 p.m. on June 21.

The woman opened the door and began talking to the man before he forced his way inside, police say. The man then pushed her into the bedroom and claimed he had a knife in his bag before demanding she perform a sex act on him, according to police.

The 37-year-old punched the man in his groin and tried to run away, but he tackled her and attempted to remove her dress, police say.

The victim then screamed and was struck with the door, giving her a laceration to the back of her head, according to police.

The man fled from the apartment, and the woman was taken to Woodhull Hospital by ambulance for her injuries.

The suspect is described as black, in his mid-20s, measuring approximately 6 feet 2 inches, and with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black short-sleeved shirt, beige pants and black shoes.
