Online baking kit delivery service Kitsby is moving into its first brick-and-mortar service space today with a cafe opening in Williamsburg.

Kitsby Cafe, located at 186 Grand St., will open its doors to the public today. The company, which has sold pre-portioned baking kits and mixes online since 2016, decided to open up a cafe space after selling their baked goods at various night markets with great success.

“We realized it was a great opportunity to showcase our finished products, and wanted to give ‘non-bakers’ a chance to enjoy as well,” said Kitsby Cafe owner Amy Hsiao.

The cafe will feature some of the same items available from Kitsby baking mixes, such as cookies n’ cream cream puffs, s’more cookies, and matcha chocolate chip brownies. Other items for sale, like the earl grey mousse cake, are elevated versions of what’s sold in kit form. The cafe hopes to soon roll out vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free options to be able to accommodate a wide range of customers.

Hot drinks like coffee, tea, lattes and Kitsby’s signature Gold Rush, made with salted milk foam, honey, and oolong, will also be on the menu.

Kitsby Cafe will also be selling their baking kits for anyone who wants to take the cafe experience home with them. Currently in stock is the matcha chocolate brownie mix, with plans to add the rest of the kits throughout the opening week.

Hsiao had originally planned to open the cafe in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, but ultimately decided that Kitsby’s customer base more closely aligned with the Williamsburg neighborhood.

“We realized it was a better fit in terms of branding and who we represent,” Hsiao said. “We love the artisan and maker community and really relate to the community in Williamsburg.”

Kitsby Cafe’s grand opening will begin at noon on April 11. Each person who stops by will receive a free cookie or cream puff. After the opening event, the cafe will be open seven days a week.
