The run-down Greenpoint Library, located at 107 Norman Ave, is about to be torn down and replaced by a three-story building with an accessible rooftop park.
The new library, which comes at a cost of $15 million, will be twice the size of the current building and will include reading rooms and a state-of-the art environmental education center.
A $5 million grant was provided by the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund for the center, with another $10 million allocated by the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL).
The library was closed June 30 and the new building is expected to open at the end of 2018.

Existing Greenpoint Library
The new Greenpoint Library will offer street level exterior green space, accessible green roofs, and a plaza, according to Marble Fairbanks, the architecture chosen for the project.
Bookmobile service will be provided in the interim near Greenpoint Library from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, according to the BPL.
