Driver Dead After Losing Control of Car Off Williamsburg Bridge Exit

WILLIAMSBURG — A driver was killed after losing control of his car while exiting the Williamsburg Bridge ramp, according to police.

The incident happened at 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, where police arrived at a overturned 2017 Ford Fusion at Havermayer Street and South Fifth Street, just off the Brooklyn-bound exit of the Williamsburg Bridge, police said.

The driver, 29-year-old Jean Caliste of Queens, was unconscious and unresponsive when police arrived, and had trauma about his head and body, according to police. His 26-year-old passenger had minor injuries at the scene.

Both were transported to Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, where Caliste was pronounced dead, police said.

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is still investigating the incident.
