Cuomo, Local Officials Organize Citizen Preparedness Training Event in Williamsburg

The event will take place on Thursday March 21. (El Puente)

March 19, 2019 By Laura Hanrahan

Elected officials are offering constituents the opportunity to be trained in disaster preparedness at an event in Williamsburg this week.

On Thursday March 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., interested participants can attend the training at El Puente Community School MS 50 auditorium, located at 183 South 3rd St., to learn about how to prepare for any type of disaster—whether natural or man-made—respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.

The event, sponsored by New York State, was organized in part by Governor Andrew Cuomo, Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, State Senator Julia Salazar, State Assembly Member Maritza Davila, Council Member Antonio Reynoso, and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

At the end of the two-hour session, participants will be sent home with a free citizen preparedness kit containing batteries, a first aid kit, face mask, safety goggles, pocket radio, drinking water, food bars, flashlight, and much more. Kits will be limited to one per family.

The New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps will be hosting dozens of preparedness seminars across the five boroughs, and the rest of the state, through August.

The event will be held in English and will also be interpreted into Spanish. Those interested in participating are asked to register online beforehand.
