Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney is offering a new platform for the women of New York’s 12th district to discuss issues that matter the most to them.

Maloney will host a town hall on Nov. 19 at Bushwick Inlet Park’s Community Room to consult with her constituents on current women’s issues and what the priorities of the new Congress should be.

The idea for the event came after constituents expressed to Maloney, who has represented the district since 2013, their desire for a public forum to talk about women’s issues, a central point in her platform.

Organizers include Emily Gallagher, a neighborhood activist who launched the Greenpoint Taskforce after assaults on women in North Brooklyn in 2017, and Jan Peterson, who formed the National Congress of Neighborhood Women. Both also serve on Community Board 1.

“Over the years, I have worked with constituents to fight for the Equal Rights Amendment, equal pay for equal work, paid family leave, maternity care, and protections for breastfeeding–the breast feeding caravan every year is a great success,” Maloney said.

Maloney says she expects to see a wide range of topics brought up at the town hall, from socioeconomic to healthcare and beyond.

“On the top of my mind are historically large class of women joining the 116th Congress, equal pay, family leave, women’s healthcare, breast feeding, the need for the Equal Rights Amendment, and the current push for a Smithsonian Women’s History Museum on the National Mall,” Maloney said.

The town hall will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the community center, located at 86 Kent Ave., and will last until 8:30 p.m. Interested attendees can register via Eventbrite.

Congresswomen, how about stop playing identity politics on put all your citizens on an equal footing. Your type of politics along with Hillary help elect the ego maniac demagogue Trump. Step away from your identity obsession and give equal billing to lousy transit, sky rocketing rents, universal health care, infrastructure, homelessness and other citizens in your district etc. etc.

You can start by finding the money to restart the Pete McG. senior center kitchen that you promise to do and then disappeared.

Congresswoman, people, male or female hate identity politics.
