Combined Events Venue and Japanese Izakaya Restaurant to Replace OUTPUT Nightclub

A combined events venue and Japanese bar/restaurant is set to take over the former site of OUTPUT, a renowned Brooklyn nightclub that closed its doors on Wythe Avenue at the beginning of the year.

The new 18,000 square foot establishment is slated to open in February and will include a ballroom, a Japanese restaurant, a cocktail bar and a rooftop terrace, according to Joshua Kaiser, a representative of the building owner Zach Weinberg, who spoke before Community Board 1 earlier this month.

The venue will have a capacity of nearly 800 people.

The ball room will take up the ground floor and will be capable of seating 200 people. It has been designated for corporate and social events like weddings, Bat Mitzvahs and award ceremonies.

On the upper level, there will be a Japanese Izakaya restaurant serving ramen, pork buns and sushi as well as a cocktail bar with a capacity of 70 people. The restaurant and cocktail bar will be open to the public seven days a week until 2 a.m.

There is also a rooftop terrace that has a capacity for about 300 people. This space, which has a retractable roof, will include a cocktail bar and a dining area.

The retractable roof will help to mitigate noise complaints, Kaiser told the community board. He said that OUTPUT was somewhat unpopular with the community because it was loud and that there would not be a similar problem with the new establishment.

He said that the new venue was intended to be a place more for formal gatherings and get-togethers and that his organization would be replacing the sound system used in OUTPUT.

“The former tenant was not popular for their sounds,” Kaiser said. “We have taken out a $1.5 million sound system. We’re replacing it, and have full intention to have largely ambient sound projected in all of these rooms.”

Just shy of 100 years since the grand French Baroque Brooklyn Paramount theater first opened its doors as a music and movie hall in Fort Greene, it is ready for its second act. The theater reopened this week following a five-year restoration and conversion project back to its original entertainment use, after decades spent as an extremely ornate college basketball court.
