Online and in-person voting will be open next week to tell Council Member Stephen Levin how the district’s $1.5 million budget should be spent.

Residents of District 33, covering Greenpoint, parts of Williamsburg, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Downtown, Dumbo, Fulton Ferry and Vinegar Hill, will be able to vote from March 30 to April 7.

On one of the two ballots, nine proposed Capital Projects—larger investment projects ranging from $200,000 to $500,000—will be listed and voters can choose up to five to vote in favor for.

The projects include new laptop carts for Dock Street school, new smart boards for P.S. 31, A/V upgrades at P.S. 307, weight room renovations at Van Arsdale High School, a library renovation at I.S. 318, renovated bathrooms at P.S. 38, enhancing the Vinegar Hill Community Garden with a new water and electrical supply, and new street crossings near P.S. 380.

The second ballot will include a list of seven Expense Projects that will receive funding from a $20,000 budget. Voters will be able to choose up to three projects to vote for.

The Expense Projects include funding for a campaign by North Brooklyn Neighbors to raise awareness of the 2020 census; buying up to 200 books for the Williamsburg Library; an initiative by Daughtry Day Care Center to bring seniors in to read to and assist the children; a program to train teachers to use 21st century STEAM tools; a NYCHA gardening project at the Gowanus Canal Conservancy; funding for the annual Gowanus Grind and Expo Gowanus events; and a professional photo printer at the Krakus Senior Center for seniors to be able to take home photos.

Votes can be cast online or at any LinkNYC location throughout the district. Residents can submit ideas for future project ideas at the New York City Council Participatory Budgeting website.
