Plans have been filed for a new six-story building on Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg.

The development has been planned for 589 Metropolitan Ave., the current site of a three-story building with a medical office on the ground floor.

The building, at a proposed height of 74 feet, includes 12 apartments spanning 8,772 square feet, and 1,088 square feet of commercial space at ground level.

Plans also call for a laundry room on site, along with storage for six bikes, and a roof deck for tenants.

SL Development is behind the project. The Brooklyn-based developer, which purchased the property for $3.2 million in 2017, is also behind a luxury condominium project at 722 Metropolitan Ave.

Demolition permits for the existing building have yet to be filed.

Ray Steffen, managing principal of SL Development, said demolition won’t begin until 2019, and that it will take two years to finish the project.
