A new development is in the works for Berry Street in Williamsburg, just blocks away from the Williamsburg Bridge.

Permits were filed Aug. 31 for a five-story residential and commercial building at 228 Berry St., the current site of a warehouse and parking lot.

The building, at a height of 65 feet, includes 40 apartments for a residential portion spanning more than 27,000 square feet. The building’s ground floor commercial space stretches over 7,000 square feet, bringing the development’s total area to 34,975 square feet.

Cornell Realty, the Brooklyn-based real estate firm, is developing the site.

Demolition permits have yet to be filed for the existing structure. IMC Architecture, the architect behind the site, has already released renderings for the planned building showing a brown facade and balconies in several of the units.

Cornell Realty did not immediately respond to questions on the development and its timeline.
