New artist tapped to lead public art project in Abolitionist Place Park

A new artist has been selected by the city to create the public art portion of Downtown Brooklyn’s long-in-the-works Abolitionist Place park. Incorporated in the new plans is a monument to abolitionist “conductors” who helped people escape slavery through the Underground Railroad.

Nestled on what could be mistaken for just an ordinary, unassuming street corner in Downtown Brooklyn, stands a brick building responsible for helping an unknown number of enslaved people in their journey to freedom.
