The owner of a Long Island hair salon has expanded into New York–opening a venue in Greenpoint.
The Hair Bar & Make Up Lounge, located at 674 Manhattan Ave., began taking clients on Dec. 19. The owner decided to open in Greenpoint given its hip vibe.
“We wanted to expand to a fun, trendy, diverse community,” said salon owner Lisa Albanese. “We also wanted to bring something new to Brooklyn.”
Albanese runs the salon alongside her sister, Dana Dibella, and their 10 employees.
The sisters are both hairdressers by trade, and opened The Hair Bar & Make Up Lounge in Bellmore, Long Island, back in 2012.
“We never had plans to expand; we never thought we would have a second location,” Albanese said. “But we went to go look at locations in Greenpoint and just fell in love with the area.”
Both salons specialize in haircuts, color and blowouts, but also provide extensive services in hair color treatment. The sisters frequent hair shows and classes to keep up with the latest trends.
“We do all color services—from complete color changes to highlights and baby highlights—along with balayage and keratin treatments,” Albanese said.
The salon also specializes in make-up services, and serves brides and bridal parties along with other special event make up—like sweet-sixteens and bat mitzvahs.
“My sister and I both love to help people feel beautiful and make them feel good about themselves,” Albanese said. “We love everything about the industry.”
The salon’s Greenpoint location is open Mon., Tues., Thurs. and Fri. from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and is closed on Wednesdays.
The salon also serves men and children.
