Police are continuing to search for a man wanted for the assault of an 8-year-old boy in Greenpoint last month.

On Friday, May 24, around 7:50 a.m., a Greenpoint mother was walking with her two young sons on Norman Avenue near Leonard Street when the unidentified man, who was walking towards them, demanded to walk in the space occupied by the mother and her sons.

The situation quickly escalated when the man allegedly began cursing and pushing her. She tried to push him off, she said, but the man then punched her 8-year-old son in the head.

Construction workers from the nearby Greenpoint Library approached the scene, at which point the man took off and went into the Queens-bound Nassau Avenue G train station.

While the physical injuries were minor, she says her son has been left significantly shaken up following the ordeal.

“He has such bad anxiety, he thinks I’m going to get hurt when I drop him off at school,” the mother said. “Both of my sons are dealing with it because my 10-year-old was there too.”

The suspect is described by police as white, approximately 40 years old, 5 feet 9 inches in height, and bald. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt and eyeglasses.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
