Nearly 300 local artists will open their studio doors this weekend for the annual Greenpoint Open Studios event.
On June 8 and 9, from noon to 6 p.m., the artists and designers will allow visitors into their studios to view their work free of charge. Art lovers will be able to take in a variety of mediums from photography to sculpture to fashion designs from both seasoned artists and newcomers alike.
The weekend will kick off with a launch party on Friday June 7, at Brooklyn Bazaar. The free event, which will start at 7:30 p.m., will feature music, dancing, live painting, art installations, specialty cocktails and more.
Throughout the weekend, Greenpoint Open Studio organizers will be offering guided tours of many of the artists’ studios, but those interested in viewing the art on their own are welcome to do so.
To help the art enthusiasts navigate the neighborhood-wide event, a map showing participating studios will be available online and at several locations throughout Greenpoint, including The Lot Radio, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, Champion Coffee and Duke’s Liquor Box.
The weekend will then wrap up with another party on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at restaurant One Bedford.
Greenpoint Open Studios first began in 2011 as a grassroots movement by a team of local volunteers who wanted to provide a free platform for local art. After taking a three year hiatus following the first event, Greenpoint Open Studios returned in 2016 with a whopping 265 artists participating.
