A 16-year-old boy was placed under arrest earlier today for the May 7 assault of a Jewish man in Williamsburg.

The alleged assailant, whose name has not been released, was apprehended by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force around 9:30 a.m. and charged with hate crime assault, aggravated harassment and harassment, according to police.

On May 7, around 7:03 p.m., the teenager was seen running up behind a 39-year-old Jewish man, who was wearing traditional religious clothing, near Rodney Street and Marcy Avenue. The victim was punched once in the head, causing him to stumble forward, video surveillance footage shows.

The assailant then fled the scene on foot.

The incident was one of two physical assaults on a Jewish person in the Williamsburg area this month. On May 4, a gang of four men attacked a 42-year-old Jewish man, also wearing traditional religious attire. The assailants spewed anti-Semitic slurs while assaulting the victim.
