Karaoke enthusiasts will be able to sing against fascism and xenophobia at a punk rock-themed fundraiser this Friday night.
The community event will be held in East Williamsburg at Pine Box Rock Shop, located at 12 Grattan St., from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. on March 29. Singers will be able to choose songs from an extensive catalogue of punk-rock music, including hits by The Clash, The Ramones, Joy Division, Pixies and many more.
The event is being put on by Punk Rock Karaoke Collective, an organization that hosts fundraisers across the country for grassroots political and community organizations. In addition to the New York City chapter, the group also operates in Chicago, Oakland and Pittsburgh.
Proceeds from the karaoke night will go to Action Against Fascism & Xenophobia, an organization that supports community-based opposition to fascism and xenophobia. The money will be used to help individuals facing legal and medical issues from their activism.
The Greenpoint, Williamsburg and Bushwick areas have seen an increasing number of xenophobic hate crimes over the past year—particularly crimes against Jewish people and establishments.
Earlier this month, an unknown vandal wrote the words “Die, Jew Bitch!” with a swastika drawn below on a poster promoting the book “The Unstoppable Ruth Bader Ginsburg: American Icon.”
On Nov. 25, a 9-year-old Jewish boy was repeatedly punched at the corner of Throop Avenue and Walton Street. Five days later, a Hasidic Jewish man was attacked just one block away, being punched in the head by an unknown assailant.
In February, two vandals smashed in the front window of a Bushwick synagogue.
Attendees of the karaoke event must be 21 years of age and over. For more information, visit the event page on Facebook.

Is this the Onion or the Post ?
Hmm I wonder why so many Trump supporters oppose standing against fascism and xenophobia?
Cool, I’ll wear my MAGA hat and see how tolerant these people are.
Wearing a symbol of intolerance lets you criticize other’s intolerance?
Awesome. Great to see the community take a stand against fascism/Trump
Nazis were Leftists (National Socialists). Fascism comes from the Left. Totalitarian, top-down control is a product of the Left’s obsession with bigger and bigger government. The Left wants to tell you what you can and cannot do; and, wants to seize your property and re-distribute what you’ve worked hard to obtain. The Left’s anti-Semitic and anti-Israel attitude is becoming more apparent; and, is increasingly revealed as being at the core of the Democratic Party. Whatever Trump is, he’s no fascist; but, he is being deemed as such by the fascists themselves.
The Nazis were far-right.
* Nazism is a form of fascism
* Nazis have a disdain for liberal democracy
* Nazis incorporated fervent antisemitism, scientific racism, and eugenics into its creed
* Nazis practiced extreme nationalism
* Nazism REJECTED the Marxist concept of class conflict
Sound familiar?
“Nazis were Leftists (National Socialists)”
Nazis were far right, the German Workers’ Party, was renamed the National Socialist German Workers’ Party – to attract workers AWAY from left-wing parties such as the Social Democrats (SPD).
Do you really have such a poor education you’d actually BELIVE that or you’re just arguing in bad faith because, well, that’s what Trumpeters do?
Then why were that people at the Unite the RIGHT Trump rally goosestepping with swastika armbands saying “Hail Trump! Hail America!” as they saluted, and waved torches as they said “JEWS WILL NOT REPLACE US”? ?
