Vandals smashed the front window of The Chabad of Bushwick on Feb. 16 in an apparent hate crime

The NYPD Patrol Borough Brooklyn North will host an “Against Hate” public forum this Thursday to discuss issues of—and solutions to—hate-filled acts happening in the North Brooklyn community.
The March 14 forum will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the NYPD Patrol Borough Brooklyn North station house, located at 179 Wilson Ave. in East Williamsburg. For those who cannot attend, the event will be live streamed on Facebook.
The forum comes in the wake of a noticeable rise in hateful acts in North Brooklyn, particularly Nazi-related graffiti. The city, overall, has seen an uptick in hate crimes compared to previous years.
The recent acts in North Brooklyn have garnered the attention of local elected officials, community members and police officers. A recent series of stickers posted in Greenpoint in January displaying Nazi symbols and messages of white supremacy prompted Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Council Member Stephen Levin, Assembly Member Joseph Lentol, State Senator Julia Salazar and Representative Carolyn Maloney to release a joint statement condemning the hateful acts.
In addition to the hateful messages, there have been multiple physical attacks on Jewish people in North Brooklyn. On Nov. 25, a 9-year-old Jewish boy was repeatedly punched by an unknown assailant at the corner of Throop Avenue and Walton Street. Just five days later, a Hasidic Jewish man was punched in the head just one block away from the first attack.
Last month, two vandals smashed in the front window of a Bushwick synagogue.
