Delivery Truck Crashes Into Russell Avenue Building, No Injuries

A delivery truck crashed into the side of a residential building in Greenpoint early this morning, damaging two parked cars in the process.

Around 3:30 a.m., a box truck sporting an ad for Aviation Gin side swiped two cars before driving into the front of 165 Russell St., located between Norman and Nassau Avenues. The truck careened into the front entrance, apparently taking the stairs off the building.

The driver reportedly swerved to avoid a cat on the road and lost control of the truck. While tenants were home at the time of the crash, no injuries were reported.

“It literally, really, just shook the house,” the owner, who was asleep at the time of the crash, told News 12. “It was kind of like an earthquake. The first thing that went through my mind was that maybe a house blew up around us.”

The Department of Buildings has issued a full vacate order on the the three-unit apartment building while they assesses its structural integrity. Tenants were offered help with relocating by the American Red Cross, according to NY1.
