The ball fields at McCarren Park are set to undergo massive renovation work.
The three baseball fields at the park, located between Bedford and Driggs Avenues, will be outfitted with natural turf in a $6 million capital project, according to Maeri Ferguson, a NYC Parks spokesperson.
The project, with funding from Mayor Bill de Blasio, is about to begin its design stage, with a public visioning meeting planned on Sept. 6 at the McCarren Play Center.
“As with all of Parks’ capital projects, the public input meeting is a chance for community members to learn more about the project, ask questions, and share suggestions,” Ferguson said.
The input meeting signals the start of the typically 12-month design process. After that, the nine-month procurement process, where a contractor is selected to carry out the project, begins, followed by construction.
McCarren Park is currently undergoing a separate capital project, where the synthetic soccer field and surrounding area are being reconstructed and updated at a cost of $3.2 million.
The McCarren Ballfields 1, 2, & 3 Visioning Session will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the McCarren Play Center, located at 776 Lorimer St. To learn more about the project, or to submit suggestions, email BKspecialevents@parks.nyc.gov or call 718-965-8976.
