Nov. 7, 2017, by Nathaly Pesantez

A motorcyclist is dead after a truck crashed into him on Tuesday morning in East Williamsburg, police said.

The incident happened at around 7:08 a.m. on Nov. 7, at the corner of Morgan Avenue and Withers Street. Police officers arriving at the scene saw a 28-year-old man, unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma to his head and body.

The 28-year-old was transported to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

An investigation determined that a 50-year-old man, driving a heavy-duty 2007 Mack Truck, was heading north on Morgan Avenue when he attempted to make a right turn onto Withers Street and hit the motorcyclist, who was on a 2017 Kawasaki bike also going north on Morgan Avenue, police said.

The truck driver remained on the scene, according to police. No arrests have been made as of Tuesday afternoon.

The name of the motorcyclist has yet to be released, as his family has not been notified, police said.

The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is continuing to investigate the incident.

Morgan Avenue is classified as a local truck route, according to the Department of Transportation. Truck drivers are allowed to operate on non-designated streets, like Withers Street, if they need to do so to get to their destination, but must use the intersection nearest to their destination and use the most direct route to return to another truck route. The intersection of Morgan Avenue and Withers Street is part of the North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone.
