Demolition permits have been filed for part of a cluster site of garages and warehouses two blocks from McCarren Park in Williamsburg, where prior building documents showed plans to bring residential units to the lot.
The recent demolition permits, filed on Oct. 27, are for a one-story, 15-foot building with an address of 20 Rear Eckford Street. The building lies within the premises of 22 Eckford Street, a lot that contains three buildings that was reported in 2015 to become the site of a seven-story, 135 residential unit building, developed by the Long Island-based Heatherwood.
Demolition and other work permits have been filed for the site since it was purchased by Heatherwood in 2015. In October of that year, permits were filed for the demolition of a three-story structure on the site, but were withdrawn in 2016. The developer also submitted plans in Oct. 2015 similar to the permits filed three days ago to demolish the one-story structure on 20 Eckford Street.
In January, plans were filed to convert the three-story manufacturing building on 22 Eckford Street, once planned for demolition in 2015, to nine residential units and apartments for artists in residence.
The demolition, if approved, would be carried out by Yaker Engineering, based in Brooklyn.
Heatherwood did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the development.
